# Getting Started with TRPG

TRPG is a deeply engaging style of play — often for its gameplay or freedom.

Sessions usually combine:

* Randomness (drawing cards, rolling dice)
* Numbers (character abilities, stats, challenge difficulty)
* Reference material (setting, rulebooks, notes)

Different tools help track and resolve these. At the table you might use physical dice and pen and paper; online, electronic tools can replace them.

The sections below introduce tools that stand in for physical ones.
